DEFRA compulsory registration

DEFRA is introducing new rules for poultry keepers in the UK. From 1st September 2024 in Scotland and 1st October in England and Wales, all poultry keepers, regardless of flock size, are required to register. The compulsory requirement was previously limited to poultry keepers over 50 birds, and now it applies to all flock sizes.

The reason for the change is to help DEFRA improve communications and advise when managing a disease outbreak, such as Avian Influenza (AI). It's been a difficult few years with AI, and even though the case numbers have been low this year, the risk is still out there!

Let's work together to keep our birds safe!

How to register: Complete the registration form here
The form is slightly confusing! It currently says the registration is voluntary if you have 49 birds or less. Apparently, this will be updated after the deadline, when the requirement becomes compulsory.
