About the Chicken Clinic
Dedicated care for your pet poultry
The Chicken Clinic is a single vet poultry practice, dedicated to treating pet poultry.
I offer video calls, home visits and training courses to help you care for your birds. Even if you’re not local to Bristol, I can help!
I’m a commercial poultry vet. I’m passionate about poultry health and providing veterinary services to pet poultry, too. I currently work with both commercial chickens and pet poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, quail).
Before I trained to be a poultry vet, I worked at the National Health Service, Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), as a biomedical scientist. I also owned chickens and ducks (for around 15 years). In my spare time, I volunteered with wildlife charities, including the British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT), as a poorly hen carer, which involved nursing sick or injured rescued hens back to health.
Inevitably, some of these birds needed veterinary care, and it was difficult to find vets who were confident and knowledgeable in treating pet poultry. This forced my realisation that veterinary services for pet poultry are limited, and it was one of my motivations for leaving my career at NHSBT and retraining to become a vet and to specialise in poultry medicine.
Chickens are now the 4th most popular pet, and unfortunately, it’s common for owners to be unable to find a vet experienced with chickens or other poultry.
Since graduating, I’ve worked with commercial poultry and pet poultry. I’ve also worked with the BHWT to produce poultryvetguide.com, which provides information and guidance for vets who are inexperienced in treating poultry.
In 2026, I’ll be teaching poultry medicine at Bristol University. I’m very excited to be teaching the next generation of vets, and the course will be better focused on treating pet poultry.
